Snowshoeing

Today it was back to the snowshoes, I took the middle around the business park.
A nice clear day but a bit on the cool side, -7 with a 35 gusting to 50 km/h wind.

The wind was causing a lot of ground drifting, but you can't really see it in the photo but I knew it was there.
I was out for a hour. I am planning on going to Hunter River this evening.

Peter Pan

About 2:00 I went cycling, I cycled to the Peter Pan corner. The Peter Pan restaurant is closed, so no burgers today.
These ducks are in the water at Hyde creek Cornwall. After leaving the Peter Pan corner I cycled to Cornwall and then home by the Ferry Road.
This photo is the Ferry road (note there has not been a ferry many years) It was sunny at -3 when I started but by the time I was getting home there were some snow flurries in the air. Also a raw wind at 20-25 km/h out of the SW.  I was out for about 75 minutes.

Breadalbane trail

I hiked the Breadalbane trail this morning on snowshoes. One of the trail bridges for crossing the river.

There was 11 in the group today and we did the complete trail, just over six km.
It was sunny and warmed up some as we neared the finish but it was -15 with a windchill of -22 when we started at 9:00 AM.

There is a farm lane that crosses the river and the trail uses it as well, this is the halfway point.
We were the first ones on the trail since the last snow.

Bonshaw hills

We had a robin checking out our crabapple tree today.  I think it is back a little too early.

In the center of the photo you can see the old highway with the new "plan B" highway on the left.

There were four of us in the Cornwall snowshoeing group this morning, A little cool at -10 but the sun was strong.

Still lots of open water in the Bonshaw river, it is a tidal river at this location.

Cloudy day

Around 3:00 I went out on the snowshoes for 45 minutes, I went as far as the Cornwall business park.
This photo was taken from the edge of the park looking towards the water tower.

There was a few rays of sun highlighting these farm buildings in York Point.
I donated plasma in the morning after I visited neighbors at the chicken barn.
Temperature was around +1 for most of the day with a light wind.

North River

I was cycling again today, This photo is looking north from the North River bridge, the channel starting open up.

There are some ducks taking advantage of the open water.
It was a little cooler today, partly cloudy with a few sunny breaks at +2 but with a sw wind at 35 km/h.

I cycled to the Peter Pan corner, then to New Haven, (I went a little farther into New Haven) and then home.

Clyde River

I was cycling during the afternoon, this is the Clyde river looking north, tide was coming in as the ice pans were floating up stream.

This hill was the steepest and longest grade that I had to climb.
Sunny at +4 with at 20-30 km/h wind from the west, which was on my back for the return trip.
I logged 25 km for the ride.

Cycling day

After the men's curling was over, I was to the local food market. The sun was shinning and the snow melting.

I then went cycling, these ducks are in the open water on the south side of the North River bridge.

I was cycling for 90 minutes and cycled the main highway to New Haven. Although the shoulder is wet here, the shoulder was dry for about 80% of the way.

This two engine snow blower was working in the Clyde river area.
It was about +2 when I started cycling but it clouded up and cooled off, so by the time I got home it was zero.

More snow

Another 15 cm of snow overnight and it was near noon before it stopped

I watched the women's curling and saw Jones win gold. After lunch I went out to clear the drive and walk.
I still had to use the blower but less snow than yesterday.

After the hockey I went out on the snow shoes, it was hard going, sinking at less 30 cm into the fresh snow.
I only went as far as the little bridge and it was much easier on the return trip.
It was overcast at a +1 temp with a light wind.

Storm day

Government snowplow clearing a street, It snowed most of the morning, schools closed and a lot of offices closed until noon.

I guessing that we had close to 30 cm of snow, it was close to 2:00 PM when I went out to clear the drive and walk. The sun was out and the temperature was up tp +2.

About a hour with the snowblower and the shovel  and I had it cleaned up.
The banks by the street are over two meters high.  That is about as high the little blower can blow it.
I watched curling and hockey most of the day. No snow shoeing today, the clearing of the drive and walk was my exercise for the day.

Fort Amherst

The Cornwall snowshoeing group went to Fort Amherst at Rocky Point today.
This is the view of Charlottetown from Rocky Point.

After walking the loop by the shore we then went to the Blockhouse Point Lighthouse.

It was a sunny morning at -10 with no wind.

Late afternoon I was out on the skis for 30 minutes, there was one skier ahead of me so I just followed his tracks. By this time the temperature was up to -5.

This photo was taken at 7:20, we had sun for the morning.

We had a few more cm of snow overnight, I used the blower to clear the drive.
At 2:00 I went out on the snowshoes, there was one snowmobile out making fresh tracks
There was light snow falling as I was getting home, but you can't really see it in this photo.
Temperature was around -7 with a very light wind.

Winter storm

I think we had 10-15 cm of snow overnight.

30 minutes with the blower had it cleaned up.

After lunch the wind picked up and was gusting to 80km/h at times, about 3:00 I went out on the snowshoes and went as far as the business park. Most of the walk was in the woods but the wind was really blowing across the fields. There was on other person out ahead of me for a short distance.

Watching curling, skiing

I was out on the skis for a couple hours this afternoon, I went as far as Elloit park, about 3 km from home.
No fresh tracks in these fields.

There were some fresh coyote tracks along the edge of the field next to the woods.

There is a full flow of water at the bridge over the little creek.  I was very careful when crossing the bridge not to go over the side.
I watched the men's curling, it started at 6:00 AM here. I then was to a pancake breakfast, part of Cornwall's winter fest.  I the watched the women's curling, and the hockey game before going skiing.

Rain day

I was to the city in the morning for a photo op for CyclePEI.
Rain most of the day and at one time it was up to +8.
Late afternoon I was out walking for a hour, because of the rain and warm temp I decided to just walk the sidewalk on our road. The gps said I travelled 4.6 km.
The crow was at the end of the driveway watching me as I started the walk.

Curling

I was to the curling club this morning for a couple hours of curling.

Midafternoon I went out on the skis for 75 minutes. Still a few hay bales in this field to be picked up.

I skied to the little hill, it is almost 2 km out way, I went down the hill times then went home, logging almost 5 km for the trip.  -2 at the present time. The forecast is for snow, then rain and high winds gusting to 90 km/h.

Woodlot trail

We were snowshoeing in the woodlot in Brookvale this morning, I hadn't realized that we had to leave our guns home.

I used my folding campsaw to cut this tree that was across the trail.

There were eight of us on the hike today and we did the complete loop.

At noon I took part in the Walk of Silence that was held in Charlottetown. About 150 people took part in the walk.  Light snow in the air at -13
