Happy New Year


A big thank you and a Happy New Year and all the best in 2011 to all the people that the time to view this blog. I know at this time of year it would be better called " the photo of the day" than cycling but in less than 100 days I will be doing a lot more cycling.

Cherry Hill

A nice winter day with sun and a high of -2. I did some hiking with friends in the Cherry Hill area.

The snow was still sticking to the trees in lots of locations, this photo is in Cherry Hill.

Late afternoon I took a 30 minute walk though the woods by the ball field, and got this photo of the sun behind the clouds.

Winter photos

The brook in the woods a couple hundred meters down stream from the bridge.


If you listen closely, you can hear the bubbling stream.
overcast, freezing rain at times at -1. I had to use the snow blower to clear the drive in morning, I then attended a funeral in Charlottetown at 11:00 AM. I went for a hour walk on the snow shoes in late afternoon. I spend some time this moving files from old computer to the new one, I still have some files to move.

Winter wonderland

We got about 20 cm of snow with winds gusting to 70 km/h today.

It was mild enough for the snow to stick to the trees. I got a new pair of snow shoes so I tried them this evening, seem to work okay.
I cleared the driveway twice today and because of the drifting, it is still covered with snow.
I attended a wake this afternoon.

Snow

Fresh coat of snow on the ball field, my guess is about 20 cm of wet snow.
I went for a walk around the fields and though the woods, a couple out before me but not very good walking, need some frost..
There was some breaks in the clouds but the sun never made it.
The high for the day was 3, after the snow we had rain for a couple of hours.
I got a new Dell 560 computer and got it set up today, so this is the first post with it.

Snow

This is the little bit of snow we got last night.

By late afternoon all the snow had melted.
Overcast with a couple of sunny breaks at zero. Forecast is for 15 cm of snow in the next 15 hours, then 10 mm of rain.
We spend the day in Montague with family members. No walk today.

Christmas

The Christmas tree at our house on Christmas morning.
It was green in the morning, a little snow after lunch, I went for a 45 minute walk around 2:30, not much snow, photo is the little hill that I ski down when we have enough snow.

No sunny breaks, but almost, winds were light and temp at zero.
We had family members visiting all day.

Ball field woods

A dead spruce tree fell down across one of the trails that I ski on.

After 15 minutes work with the chain saw it looks much better, there was couple other locations that needed a work as well.
Mid morning the maples out front had this flock of birds in it, I have no idea what kind they are.
I was to Charlottetown in the morning, the woods after lunch and to church in Cornwall in the evening. The rain has stopped but still some wind with a high of 1.

stormy weather

It was raining all day and windy, not as much wind as yesterday but it was a nastier day to be outside. The temp was high of 3. I was to Charlottetown in the morning, very large crowds at the malls. I did not get to do a walk today. I am hoping tomorrow will be a better day.

Walk in woods

This tree was blown over and the roots came out of ground, lot of the dead trees blown down though the woods.
A fair amount of water flowing in the stream, but not as much as I expected.
Windy all day with gust to 80 km/h with rain at a high of 3.
The walk in the woods was it for the day.

Windy weather

This photo is of the North River on the north side of the highway.

This is the ball field taken around 4:00, still windy but rain had also stopped.
At times the wind was gusting over 90 km/h with a temp of 4.
Visited with neighbors this morning, I spent the afternoon looking a ATV trying to find out why the electric starter doesn't work. I went to Warren Grove this evening for cards.

Christmas decorations

This house in Warren Grove puts a lot of effort into the decorations

I have seen it at night, and it looks good with all the lights on.

This field in Milton is very green for mid December, It is a cover crop planted in the fall.
I spend the morning with the Sally Ann helping deliver Christmas food hampers. I was to the wood lot in the afternoon and on the way home I visited with a old friend in North Wiltshire.

Trail officer

When I was cycling I met a trail officer near the Royalty road.

At the Royalty Junction it was decision time, do I go to York or Hunter River.

The Confederation Trail near the Sherwood road. I cycled the trail from the Charlottetown mall to the Loyalist Road, by the time I got home I had cycled 27 km. It was sunny at -2.
This evening I had supper with friends in Stratford.

This morning I was in Meadowbank cutting down a dead spruce for a neighbor. I spend the afternoon in the wood lot and this evening I went to Hampshire for cards.

Humborg Tower

The new Humborg tower that is going up on Grafton street as seen from the top of the Fitzroy Parkade.

I had lunch with some Trail Officers at noon and attended a Island Trails board meeting this evening.

The new building is starting to take shape.

Field house

The field house at the Terry Fox Sport complex is finished inside, just some cleaning up outside and get the grass growing.

This photo taken yesterday, today there would be no snow as it was 10 with light rain and very windy, 60 km/h gusting to 80 km/h.
I the morning I visited with neighbors at the chicken barn and I spend the afternoon at the wood lot. I was working about 200 meters in and there I didn't noticed the wind.

Trails

A nature trail near the Cornwall Business Park, yesterdays snow almost all gone.

Because of the snow I see someone used the bridge today before I came along.

A new house that was built this year in Cornwall. Mostly sunny at a high of 2
After lunch I took a walk around the fields as far as the business park. Then I went cycling for 75 minutes around the town streets and logged 25 km. I then visited family in Hampshire.

Rural road

This road, named the Clyde road was bare at 1:00 when I went into the woods, this photo taken at 4:30 . It snowed maybe 2 cm.
This road doesn't have much traffic, so DoT does not keep in open during the winter.
The morning was sunny but light snow in afternoon at a high of -1.
I had breakfast with the radio operators "hams" in morning and spend the afternoon at the wood lot.

Wood lot

This is looking back towards the road and what it looks like after I have finished, I think I am about 200 meters from the road.

This was taken in North Wiltshire, It was a very nice afternoon at a high of -3.
I donated plasma in the morning and spend the afternoon in the wood lot.
