55+ games and snow

This morning after the Official opening of the 55+ games I (with others) went for a walk around Victoria Park.

This afternoon I went to Hartsville to check on the snow conditions, the trees are loaded with snow and ice.

Still lots of fresh rabbit tracks in the woods. It was -20 early this morning but did get up to -3 at one time during the afternoon. Light snow again this evening.

Coyote tracks

These tracks were made this morning and I would say a good size coyote. The snow is firm in places to hold him up.

The firm snow allowed me to get a good photo of the footprint. It was about -8 with sun.
I was out on the skis for 40 minutes and over to the business park. Four trips to town today driving curling fans to the Civic Center to watch the final draws of the Scotties. I attended a wake this afternoon as well.

Ball field fence

A couple of days ago I was saying the snow was almost covering fence, today even with the 25 mm of rain we had last night, the snow we got after the rain almost did the job.

Even with all the snow, the creek in the woods is starting to open up. -9 this morning and I had to use the blower to clear walk and driveway. -12 as I write this and the forecast has it going to -19 overnight. I was out on the snow shoes for 35 minutes, no sign of anyone else out.
This evening I was to the Scotties curling to see Saskatchewan beat Ontario.

Owl

As I was skiing though the woods I saw this owl in the tree, I took a couple pics before getting this close. Even then it just sat there and looked at me, must be hungry when hunting in the day time. Not sure what kind, maybe someone knows.

I had some type of flu for the last couple days and just getting around a little today. I was out on the skis for about 30 minutes and drove a few people to see the Scotties and that was my day.
A perfect day to be out, sunny at -3

More snow

The snow cover will soon be to the top of this fence.

This is the fence before the snow, I think it is over a meter high. The weather man a few days agoe said the depth of snow cover was over 90 cm.

I was to the morning draw of the Scotties, there were a few race horses being exercised as I was leaving the civic center. Periods of light snow all day at a high of -5. I was out on the skis this afternoon for 75 minutes.

There were six of these birds in the crabapple tree this morning, are they waxwings?
I had to use the snow blower to clear the walk and driveway this morning. The temp did get up to +4 this afternoon with overcast skies.

St Andrews

I was snowshoeing back of St. Andrews this morning, at first you are on a road that is not cleared of snow in the winter.

Then the trail cuts across a field before getting into the wooded area.

There was snow forecast for the afternoon and I can see the clouds moving in with one small break in them.
It was -7 this morning and by supper time it was up to zero with light snow which turned to rain.
The forecast for tonight is 10 mm of rain at +4

Ski and snowshoe tracks in the MacPhail woods, lots of snow still on the trees from yesterday's storm.

I am sure these tracks were made by a rabbit in high gear.

Also a snowmobile has traveled in this area. It was sunny at -2 and very light wind, a perfect day to be out on the snow shoes. I was out twice today, 45 minutes in Cornwall and about a hour near the ball field.
