Snow & rain

I had about 25 cm of snow to clear of the driveway this morning.

Then we had freezing rain in the afternoon, this is the crabapple tree.

The pine tree was collecting ice as well. I was out on the snowshoes yesterday but for today, it was the 45 minutes with the snowblower. It was raining lightly at the time but my back was wet though to the skin.

Afterwards we had lunch at the Old School Diner in St Peters.
It was sunny at -8 with a light breeze when we were hiking.

A little snow over night, had to use the snow blower again to clear the drive, After lunch I was out on the snowshoes for a hour. I was all the way to the business park and back.

Winter storm

As the snow started, a couple Bluejays were feeding at the feeder.

Midafternoon I was out on the snowshoes for 45 minutes, this shack is a leftover from when the was radio station antenna was at this location.

It was nice walking in the woods, as in the open the wind was reported to be gusting to 90 km/h.

This is the field at the edge of the business park and were I turned back and went home.
By 6:00 PM we had received over 25 cm of snow, so I spend a hour clearing the driveway using the blower.

A major intersection here for the snowmobilers .

I turned back at this point, marker 167. I was out a little over the hour and walked 5 km.
It was sunny at -12 with a light breeze.

Bare field

After lunch I was out for a walk, there was one person out before me.  Lots of water flowing in the creek, we had over 20 mm of rain last night.

The field next to the business park is basically bare of snow.
I was out for a hour and the temperature was around 1.

Cycling day

I cycled to Victoria Park, a Coast Guard ice breaker was leaving the harbour.

This tanker most likely the reason that the ice breaker was in the harbour.

No snow on the trail at all, this was near the University. I cycled the trail to Royalty Junction, then took the road to Winsloe and on home.

This photo was the open water at the North River bridge, there were some ducks in the area, not sure if the one close up was a duck. The temperature was zero while I was cycling with a 20 km/h south wind.

Peggy's trail

The Thursday group was hiking the Peggy's trail at Mooney's pond this  morning. There was 14 in the group.  It was -6 with a light breeze.

I have not seen this for a while but someone was harvesting block ice from the pond.
The ice appeared to be at least 20 cm thick.

We were hiking for about a hour and at the end of the pond went a little farther into the woods so by my GPS we had hiked for 3 km.

Appin road trail

There was nine in the group today, a cool day at -12. It is one of the hilly trails.

A spring in the hillside, the water coming out of the ground never freezes.

This was the most steepest hill on the trail, one person was on hands and knees to make it up.
We were out for two hours and travelled 6.5 km.

Hyde Park

The Cornwall snowshoeing / hiking group was walking the Hyde park trail.  The sun was shinning with just a few clouds.

There were some ducks in the open water of the Hyde creek.

The park sign at one of the openings to the trail, this one near the Westwood school.

Another large tree has become a victim to the high winds.
In the morning I had coffee with three members of the cycling group, most of them have put the bicycles away for the winter.

Windy day

Very windy today at +6, and rain in the evening. This tree top broke off and was partly on the trail.

It was the top of the tree third from the left.

I was to the chicken barn, then to the Plasma center for a donation at 11:00 AM, got home around 1:00.
After having lunch I went out for a 75 minute walk to the business park. The fields are baring off and the rain hasn't started yet.

Down trees

In the afternoon I was out on the snowshoes for a couple of hours. I spend 10 minutes at this tree and sawed off another meter.

I was at this one for 15 minutes and removed another dozen limbs, Temperature was around the zero mark but the wind from the south east was gusting to 60km/h.

Tracks

Fresh snowmobile tracks in the business park. I was out on the snowshoes and went as far as the park.

Snowshoe tracks in the fresh snow, they are my tracks.

There is a bit of snow drifted on these but I guessing coyote tracks.
It was sunny but cold, about -16 with a windchill of -25 while I was out for a hour.
Watching curling this evening.

Fresh snow

About 10 cm of fresh snow this morning, temperature -2 so the snow was wet enough to pack together.

After lunch I went out on the snowshoes, I was to the business park. Right now  there is enough snow to try the skis. But the forecast is for 25-40 mm of rain on Monday.

It was overcast all day but the sun did try to peek out late in the day.

Roma trails

I was snowshoeing at Roma in the morning, this photo is looking across the harbour to Georgetown and a coast guard icebreaker.

Still lots of snow laying on the trees and there was no one out on the trails ahead of us.

A map of the trails for Roma, I was out for a hour and did about a third of the trail.
Temperature was -6 with no wind and overcast but still a good day for snowshoeing.

There were eight people in the group today, at 9:00 AM it was -18 but by noon it was up to -10.
I hiked to the center loop then came back and hiked all the south loop travelling almost 7 km.

Lots of snow on the trees, not much on the ground, I was using snowshoes but the others didn't.
