Nice day

It was sunny at +2 when I was cycling today, the trail near the mall was as dry as it is in the summer. Some nice clouds in the sky.

No ice in the river or the harbour, it all moved out while I was away.

This is the log cabin that I posted yesterday, cocoa it is located on the outskirts of Laurens.

A view of the fire place, hard to realize all the cooking was done here.
I logged 28 km cycling around Charlottetown.

South Carolina photos

The 80+ F temp sure had the flowers in bloom.

This log cabin is over 200 years old.

Most days were clear blue sky with some puffy clouds, every day was in the eighties.
I got home today, 2,700 km drive one way.

Strange fish

This fish is located at the corner of Queen and Richmond streets. Some sunny breaks at +2 this afternoon so I cycled into Charlottetown logging 23 km for the trip.

The North River really is opening up, the channel is ice free for a fair distance.
A note to all you faithful viewers of the blog, I am travelling for the next couple weeks so the posts will not be every day. I am pointing the car south.

Tracks in snow

I am guessing that these tracks in the fresh snow were made by a squirrel.
Light snow most of the day with a high of 1. I am guessing about 10 cm in the last 24 hours.
I was out on the snowshoes midafternoon for a hour, the trail loop is 3.8 km. Only one other person had being out today.

Winter River trail

I was hiking the Winter River Trail with 10 others this morning, it took two hours to do the full trail.
The fresh snow made some of the branches look like lace.

The Winter River as seen from where the log cabin is located.

A eagle flying over the river. Overcast at -4 when I was on the hike. Light snow again this evening.

Brookvale wood lot

This morning I was to the Brookvale wood lot and snowshoed the trail, takes about a hour.

A nice stand of pine that has had the limbs removed up to the 5 meter level.

A younger stand in this area. It was overcast at zero when I was out.
I was to Montague in the afternoon and to cards in the evening.

Ice and water photos

A lot more open water north of the North River bridge today.

Some ice pans were floating down river with the out going tide, the pans were breaking up as they hit the bridge piers. I had a meeting in the city after lunch so I cycled into Charlottetown. It was sunny at + 7 on the way home.
Late afternoon I took a walk though the ballfield woods, it had been a few days since I was though it. The creek is still frozen over at the foot bridge point but I could hear the water running.

Open water in harbour

Some ice pans floating in Ellen creek.

The Charlottetown is ice free other than for some ice pans floating near the shore.

The viewing stand from where I took photos of harbour, the snow really disappeared from the rain a couple days ago. Note the flag, a fair breeze blowing today.
Overcast at +2 with the wind, I was cycling around Charlottetown this afternoon logging 32 km for the trip.

A nice sunny day at +1. I spend the afternoon at the curling club, won 2, lost 3.
I was to cards in Hampshire and now watching the men's curling. I must remember to change the clocks.

Curling

I was taking part in the MFFCA bonspiel this weekend. We played three games today and two more scheduled for tomorrow.

The bonspiel is being held at the Cornwall Curling club.

It was +6 this morning, a cold front moved in during the late afternoon. It is -2 now and forecast to be down to -12 overnight.

North River

Open water on the north side of the North River bridge.

The ice is starting to thin out where the channel is located. Mostly sunny at 10.
Feels like spring, snow melting and lots of water running.
I was curling in the morning and cycling for a while in the afternoon, lots of water on the streets. The streets were much dryer yesterday.

This photo taken on a back street of the new industrial park of the Upton road. The field between the street and the river has become a unofficial dog park.
Sunny breaks with cloudy periods at +1 I was curling this morning and out cycling around the city this afternoon, logging 30 km.

Snowshoeing Strathgartney park

I was snowshoeing the park this morning with a group of snowshoers from Cornwall
A bit of light snow on the trees made for a nice trail, overcast at -3.

The Bonshaw river which was totaled frozen three weeks ago now is fully open.

Light snow

A light snow fall early this morning, no wind so it stuck on the trees. As soon as the sun came out it was gone.

I was out on the snowshoes for a hour. It was overcast at -2, the sun was trying to shine though the clouds but no luck. I had a pivot strap break on one snowshoe so ended carrying the snowshoe home. I replaced the strap this evening so it is ready to go in the morning.
I took the GPS unit with me and the trail I normally walk on near home is 3.7 km long and my Avg moving speed was 4.4 km/h.

Charlottetown harbour

I cycled around Charlottetown this afternoon, the channel is open in the harbour.

This photo was taken at the foot of Prince Street, a lot of open water showing here as well.

This is the north side of the North River bridge, still some ducks making use of the open water.
It was overcast at +4 when I was cycling, watching the men's curling this evening.

Soy beans

Still lots of soy beans in these pods, I am surprised the some of the birds that over winter are not eating them.

These beans that were not harvested were in a wet spot in the field.
I was out on the snow shoes for a hour after lunch. Now watching mens curling.
Over cast this morning, rain started late afternoon and it is +2 as I post this.

first cycling day in March

It was sunny around the zero mark as I started cycling, but clouded up and cooled down a couple of degrees before I got home. The road spray was freezing on the bike and by the time I got home the shifter cable wouldn't shift. I logged 30 km.

Photos are of the ducks at Ellen creek Charlottetown.

fresh snow

I was out on the skis for 90 minutes mid afternoon. Only my skis tracks in the snow in this large field.

Lots of traffic on the trail near Eliot park. The ski tracks where someone else's.

A nice sunny day with a few clouds at - 7 with a bit of a east wind.
I spend the morning at a meeting. No curling today.
