Water in creek

I donated plasma this morning then before lunch I took a walk though the woods near home. It had rained and the temp is up to 10 so snow is melting. This field  is almost bare of snow.

The water flowing in the creek is hitting the bridge.  I spent some time this afternoon on Cypress (my newest bike) cleaning and repacking the bearings on the rear wheel and installed a new chain and cassette.
At one time this afternoon temp was up to 11 and the wind was gusting to 90 km/h.

Gairloch trail

Our group hiked part of the Gairloch trail this morning, we did the south loop logged about 4 km.
The rating was moderate so it was a little more challenging.

There was a couple of bridges crossing a small stream, there was eight in the group.
I hit the freezing rain in Stratford on the way home, very slippery road conditions.
The temp was zero when I got home, now it is 4.

I visited with the neighbors in the morning and spend the afternoon helping a friend with one of his projects.
So it was 5:15 when I went for a walk, the sun was setting but the temp had warmed up to -7.

No sign of water flowing in the little creek in the woods by the ball field.

This photo taken on the high ground looking towards the business park, I could see a couple of the street lights coming on.

Soybeans

These soybeans were missed by the combine do to a wet spot in the field.

I was walking for 75 minutes in the afternoon, no fresh tracks in this field, nice clear sky at -12, the wind chill about -20.

This is the head spring of a creek that feeds into the North River, even at -20 it never freezes over. I checked it one day last winter and the temperature of the water coming out of the ground is +5.
By the GPS I walked 4.5 km while I was out.  Watching Grand Slam curling this evening.

Fox

You probably will need to enlarge the photo to see it, it was much closer when I first saw it but by the time I got the mitt off and the camera out it was this far away.

Mid afternoon I was out walking for a hour, sunny but a cold -17 with a wind chill of about -25.

A four wheeler was trying out the snow since I was here two days ago, not much snow in the fields now.
I was to a Crime Stoppers luncheon meeting at noon today.  My thermometer was showing -22 this morning.

Mooneys Pond

This morning the group hiked the Peggy's trail and some of the biking trail for a total of 3 km.
It was sunny at -18 but the wind was light at the time, later in the day the wind was gusting to 60 km/h.

A nice trail and a fair part of it is wheel chair usable.
At the pond outlet there is enough water flowing to keep it ice free even at -18.
It is -19 as I make this post.

If you take a close look, you can see the moon in the sky. It is up early these days.
I was out for a hour and a half.

Cattails in winter

I awoke to about 8-10 cm of snow, at -4. But by mid-afternoon it was +5.

I was out on the snowshoes for a hour, I came across these cattails in a swampy area on the  CFCY property.

This one is holding together very well considering that it is mid January.
After I got home I watched curling.

In this field there was a set of skis tracks made today or late yesterday. In the woods close to the ball field there was one other set of foot prints that were fresh. It was a cold day at -15 with a wind 25 gusting to 40 km/h which when I was in the open put the wind chill at -24.

We had about 7 cm of snow overnight, cleared the drive with the snow pusher, then used the blower to clear the parking area next to the drive. After lunch I donated plasma.

Then about 3:30 I went out on the snowshoes for a hour. I walked to the business park where The first two photos were taken.

I then walked along the MacPhail creek to the Borden property and then home.

We walked over four km as by the GPS unit.
Light snow this evening, forecast is for 2-3 cm.  This evening I had the second half on the First Aid course and got my certificate, good for another three years.

Snowshoeing

I was with this group in the morning, we were at the demonstration woodlot in Brookvale, 14 in total.

After lunch I went cycling, cycled to Allen St then the trail out to to Royalty road. The trail is getting too dicey to continue cycling on. I came home by the Lower Malpeque road.

The North River north of the bridge with the warm weather over the weekend is opening up.
I was to cards at Warren Grove this  evening.

Seal?

I cycled into Victoria Park today, I believe there was some seals on the ice in the harbour.

They were to far out for me to be sure, may have only been dirt on the ice.
After leaving I cycled the trail to Sherwood, then the road to Highfield and the on to home logging 30 km.

Later in the afternoon I was out on the snowshoes for 45 minutes, the sun was trying to peek out but never fully.  Temperature was 2 when cycling but got up to 4 later.

First cycling this year.

Some boys playing pond hockey near Belvedere Ave. as seen from the trail.

The North River south of the bridge is starting to open up, a week ago it was almost iced over.

I cycled to Charlottetown using the road, then on the trail at Grafton St. Trail covered with packed snow that had been sanded but the sand has melted into the snow. Not the best to cycle on but I cycled the four km to the Charlottetown mall, then took the road home logging 20 km.
This photo was taken near the Farmers Market. It was overcast with light wind, around zero when I started but -2 by the time I got home.
