Fallen trees

Late afternoon I walked to the business park and took my camp saw with me.
The snow pack is building up so now in places I need to duck under the branches.

I removed a couple branches from this tree, I did the same thing in a couple other places as well.

These two trees came down since yesterday as I walked the trail yesterday.
I will need the chain saw to remove them.
I was to Hampshire after lunch and a lot more ice on the trees and wires there.
It was -17 with light wind when I was out in the woods.

More snow and some rain

Overnight we had 15 cm of snow and then 5 mm of rain with the temperature up to +1.
I was out on the snowshoes for a while. These photo taken around 4:00, still a lot of snow on the spruce trees.

Most of the ice is of the hardwood trees but some branches still have a bit of ice on them.
Forecast is for -20 temperature of the next three days so it will be a bit longer before the trees lose the ice.

Skiing

I was out on the skis before lunch, the snow was very good. I went about 4 km.

This poplar tree is near the ball field. Temperature was -6 but got up to -2 in the afternoon.
I was to Hampshire this evening.

Winter walk

Yesterday I spend the day in Montague. I was out on the snowshoes for a hour before lunch.
Temperature was up to -2 but now is -7.  A light wind.

We had another 10 cm of snow in the last 24 hours.

If we keep getting snow, this fence will soon be buried. We did have a few sunny breaks in the late afternoon.

Afternoon walk

I went out on the snowshoes and went as far as the edge of the business park, still ots of ice on the trees.

I was out for 50 minutes, there was enough sun to make soft shadows when I got back to the ball field.
Temperature was -11 with a very light breeze.

Ice on trees

There is still ice on the trees today, I had to use the blower to clear what the snowplow put in the driveway.

I was out of the snowshoes late afternoon for 30 minutes. Almost enough crust on the snow to walk on without the snowshoes. -1 all day with a little drizzle.

Monday, December 23, 2013

freezing rain

Freezing drizzle or rain all day but luckily not a large buildup of ice. The tree is a crap apple.

I see by the parts of cones on the fresh snow  a squirrel was busy having lunch in this spruce tree.
The temperature was around zero most of the day and not much change overnight.
I was to the mall before lunch, lots of people on the go.

More snow

Another 12-15 cm of snow, around 3:00 I used the snowblower to clear the driveway and then took a walk though the woods to the bridge.

I was on snowshoes but there was one person ahead of me that was walking without snowshoes. He was sinking well into the snow, it must have being a tough walk.
This evening it is -5 with a NE wind 35 gusting to 50 km/h so we have some blowing snow.

Crows

Another 10 cm of snow last night, much milder today, so we have fog.

These crows were watching me as I cleared the driveway. I was to Montague in the afternoon.
Temp is 1 but we drove in rain all the way. Cards in Hampshire cancelled tonight because of the freezing rain forecast.

Sand pile

In the afternoon I snowshoed to the business park as far as the sand pile. The first photo is looking east towards the York Point road, the house in the middle of the tree line is on the other side of the York Point road.
The sand pile is a government one used for sanding the roads.
I was out for about 70 minutes and went about 3 km.  Temperature was -7 but warming up as we are getting snow overnight.

Walk in snow

I had to use the blower to clear the walk and drive first thing in the morning.

In the afternoon I went out on the snowshoes and went as far as the business park, the sun was still high .

This was at the edge of the woods, the sun looked angry on these clouds.
Light winds with a high of -6

Another storm

This photo taken around noon, had been snowing for a hours.

At 4:00 I went out on the snowshoes, officially the radio was saying 20 cm of snow but seemed like 30 cm to me. The 30 minute walk was a work out as I was breaking trail all the way. For part of the way I could see another snowshoer had being out earlier. -2 at the time with wind gusting to 50 km/h.

River ice

The river north of the bridge is almost all covered with ice, most years this doesn't happen until mid January.

I went out on the snowshoes at 4:00, not a cloud in the sky for the setting sun to shine on.

My tracks along the woods.
-14 at the time, now it is -19. I was to cards this evening.

Setting sun

Late afternoon I was out on the snowshoes for 35 minutes, this photo of the sun is looking over the business park and water tower.

Looking more to the south in the second photo.

The fresh snow looks good with the outside decorations.
It took at least 30 minutes using the snowblower to clear the drive this morning.
By 4:00 pm the temperature was down to -10 with a light wind.

Fresh snow

Mid afternoon I went for a 30 minute walk using the snow shoes. It was -5 with the wind gusting to 55 km/h.  The snow started at 10:00 am by post time I guess we have had 25 cm with more coming.

The snow on the trees made for a nice winter scene.

Winter day

Early in the morning, -19 with a wind chill of -31, high for the day -13.
Right now -17 with a wind chill of -24.
I spend another 3 hours with neighbor finishing yesterday's job.

More sun sets

I was at a neighbor for the afternoon giving him a hand. So that is where these photos were taken.

It was -18 last night and the high for the day was -10. -13 right now and the wind is picking up, forecast to be gusting to 60 km/h overnight. Cards in Hunter River cancelled.

Setting sun & moon

Mostly sunny all day but windy, gusting to 50 km/h at times, wind chill was -22.
Actual temperature when I took photo was -15.

At the same time the moon was high in the sky. I didn't get to do a walk today.

Clouds

Mid afternoon I went for a walk in the woods near home, sunny but cool at -9.
Look close and you can see the moon is already high in the sky.

A ridge of clouds to the south, probably over the open water of the strait.

The setting sun is highlighting these clouds near the ballfield.

Christmas decorations

The sun was trying to peek out of the clouds around 8:00 AM.  Temp was -2

I was to Hampshire to put a carburetor on brothers snowblower.

After lunch I was busy putting up the outside decorations.
I may go to cards this evening.

Another cycling day

As it was -4 with light wind I went cycling after lunch, I first cycled to the mall and went on the trail.
The first photo was near the mall.

I took the highway into Winsloe, still sunny at this time, at the Lower Malpeque road I went back onto the trail.

Near the fire school in Milton, trail completely snow covered, several places between here and Hampshire it was the same.

This tree was in Hampshire near the Colville road, I needed the chain saw for it.
I then cycled back to Rte 248 and took the road home logging 33 km.
