Tracks in snow

After lunch I was out on the snowshoe for a hour, fresh snowmobile tracks in this field.

No way to get lost as long as I can see the Cornwall water tower.
Overcast but the sun was trying to break out. Mild at +3 and a light wind.

Overcast all day with a high temperature around zero.

Fresh snow

It had been snowing for a hour when I went out for a 75 minute walk, I went to the business park and the long way home going about 3.5 km.

I saw this brown squirrel and got a couple photos.

Not sure what made these tracks, seem too big for a squirrel, the footprint is mine. It was about a km from were I took the squirrel photos.

I was just about when I took these photos, the snow was sticking to the trees.

The temperature was right at zero with a northeast wind at 30-40 km/h.

A mussel boat working in the Brudenell river, hard to believe it is the last of January and no ice on the river.

We did about half of the trail and logged about 3 km.  Sunny at -4 with light wind.

Various

I was cycling again today. This the Confederation in Winsloe, It is getting lots of use by the snowmobilers.

In the Industrial Park I saw these guys digging a hole, Not much frost in the ground here but in chatting with them, they said at a location  last week there was over a meter of frost.

Still a fair amound of open at the North River. Thirty years ago at this time of year they would be having horse races on the ice and the cars and trucks would all be parked o the ice. Today I would not walk on the ice.
Mostly over cast at -4 with a wind chill of -9 so it was a little warmer than yesterday.

It was overcast with a couple sunny breaks, temp -4 with a NW wind gusting to 50 km/h.

Spring water

Late afternoon I was out on the snowshoes for 75 minutes, not enough snow to cover the stubble.
I was between home and the Cornwall business park.
Not many snowmobiles around this winter in this area but a couple tracks here.

A spring headwater, it never freezes even at -25. It is warm enough that the watercress grows all winter.
Overcast with light snow showers at -3

Down trees

This was taken back in December just after the tree was blown down.

I finally got to it with the chain saw.

This one was in the same area, so opened it up at the same time.
I was out for about 75 minutes. Some sunny breaks at -7 with a cold north wind.

Cycling

Today I cycled to Victoria Park, very little ice in the harbour.

I then cycled the trail to the Bypass highway, packed snow in places.

Other places the trail was bare. The city removes the snow on this section of the trail.
I the cycled the roads to Winsloe and the on home.

The North River as seen north of the bridge, some ice but still a lot of open water.
Sunny breaks at -5 with a 20-25 km/h west wind, so the wind chill would be around -10.
I really did not notice the wind until I was on the way home on the causeway.

Wood lot

I was to the wood lot in the afternoon, about the same amount of snow as home. It was easy going with the snowshoes.

Some rabbit tracks, I saw them in four locations so seems to lots of rabbits. I also saw squirrel tracks and one fox tracks. Surprisingly no coyote tracks.
This tree is about 10-12 cm in diameter and looks like it was snapped off in the last wind storm.
It was overcast at -3 with a light wind.

Coyote tracks

Late afternoon I was out on the snowshoes for 90 minutes, sunny but with the wind, the wind chill was -20.

Lots of coyote tracks at this location at the edge of a wooded area.

Seems like a gathering place for the pack.

The setting sun was high lighting the homes in the Sunrise Cove subdivision.
